Fitness Tools & Supplements

A one-hour workout is 4% of your day. No excuses.

Protein

They say abs are made in the kitchen, and its true. Fitness is 70% diet (and by diet I don’t mean fat loss specifically, but just your everyday meal goals, whatever they may be) and 30% workout routines, but that doesn’t mean that getting the proper diet needs to be difficult.

Getting enough protein is crucial to all fitness goals, but it is especially important if you’re trying to build muscle.

While you want to get as much of your protein from food as you can, I know it’s often easier said than done. Adding in protein shakes throughout your day can make meeting your daily protein target much easier to get to.

Whey Protein: Whey protein is great for during the day because it breaks down faster in your body and is absorbed quickly, allowing your muscles to use it. This is why many athletes drink whey protein shakes before, during, and/or after their workouts. I personally use Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein for my morning protein shake and my post workout protein shake.

Casein Protein: During bulking phases, I use Optimum Nutrition’s Casein Protein about an hour before bed.

While whey protein is great for during the day because it breaks down faster in your body, casein protein is great to use for while you’re sleeping because your body breaks it down much slower, keeping your body nourished throughout the night while it would otherwise be lacking.

If you’re someone who can drink it right before bed, that is best. I personally can’t drink it immediately before bed because it can cause slight bloating, which can make it hard to fall asleep. With that being said, if you’re really trying to pack on some muscle, adding casein protein to your diet can help immensely.

Pre-Workout

I don’t understand how people workout without this stuff!!! Haha!! Its been my saving grace on many many occasions.

For one, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve just not been in the mood to hit the gym. But once I throw back some pre-workout, I then have no choice. And I can also tell you that I have never been unmotivated, taken some pre-workout, hit the gym, and then not had an awesome workout.

On top of helping in the motivation field, it is also super helpful in increasing your strength, stamina, and ability to put up more weight than you otherwise would. I love it!

All that being said, if you’re new to working out, or new to taking pre-workout, never start with a full dose!! Start with a quarter or half dose, and see how you feel with that. If it works well for you, stick with that for a while. There’s no need for full dosages if a lesser dosage works!! Its also a great way to save money by rationing your supply.

If you decide to try a pre-workout, below are my three favorites. You never want to use the same pre-workout for an extended period of time, otherwise your body gets used to it and it becomes less effective. I usually go through 1 or 2 containers, and then switch to the next one.

Woke AF:

My discovery of Woke AF was sort of by accident, but one of those wonderfully great accidents! I was spending the weekend at the beach with friends, and I had forgotten my pre-workout at home. My friend’s son is a brand ambassador for Bucked Up, the company that makes the product, so this was what my friend was using.

He let me use some of his, and I was addicted immediately. It was the fastest acting pre-workout I had ever used (literally I could feel it in like, 5-10 minutes) and my workout was insane!

This is what I am still currently using and absolutely loving it! This option is also great because they actually have two different versions of their pre-workout: one with a stimulant, and one without. So if you’re trying to ease into the use of pre-workout, getting the one without the stimulant is a great start.

B-Nox (Formerly Bullknox):

This is the pre-workout that my husband swears by, as not only does it give great workouts, but it also has a test booster in it for that extra “umph!”

If you’re looking for something to help you ease into pre-workout instead of diving right in, this is a great option because unlike other pre-workouts which are relatively fast acting, B-Nox takes about a week of using it every day for you to really start to feel the full effects.

It also doesn’t do that itchy, tingly ear/skin feeling thing (which, if I’m being honest, I personally love haha. I’m weird, I know.)

Vitamins

I recently fell in love with the Nuun Vitamin + Electrolyte drink tablets. To be honest, I originally bought them as a “hangover preventative” for a cruise I went on where there was going to be a lot of late night partying (and drinking haha!) — But even long after the cruise I’ve continued to use them, just because they really make my body feel great. Besides, getting extra vitamins and electrolytes is never a bad thing, and unlike drinks like Gator-aid which have disgustingly high amounts of sugar, the Nuun tablets are super healthy and come in a bunch of different flavors.

They’re just like Alkaseltzer or Emergen-C tablets. You pop one into a bottle of water, let it sit and fizz for a few minutes, and voila! You’ve got yourself a healthy, power-packed drink that tastes great!

Meal Supplements

Huel

Huel: As I’ve said, getting enough macros and nutrients is essential to reaching fitness goals. I personally take in roughly 2500-3000 calories a day. And while to some guys that’s not a lot, I am vertically challenged haha! So getting 3000 calories in a day is often a struggle, especially since I travel frequently and am on the go all the time.

Even when I’m home, meal prep is just not something I’ve ever been very good at. So as a supplement to help me fit meals in when I’m too busy for food, I love using Huel.

Their pre-made, ready to go drinks are super convenient and they taste great as well. I prefer the mixed berry. You can read and learn more about them by going to their website, and if you use my discount link below, it will save you $15 on your first order (it will also save me $15 on my next order, so if you do use my link, I appreciate it!)

Freshly

Freshly: I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Freshly! It’s seriously the most convenient meal supplement ever!

I don’t know about you, but I personally hate cooking. I honestly just don’t want to waste the time doing it. That’s where Freshly comes in!

They offer tons of diverse, delicious, and healthy ready-to-go meals that get delivered to me every week. All I have to do is throw it in the microwave and I’m good to go!

They have tons of options, so if you’re very picky like I am, then it’s easy to stick to the basics, but if you have a diverse pallet then there’s plenty of different dishes as well.
